Macbook Air

Ok, I don't think I'm alone here in that I don't get the Macbook Air.
I was rather psyched by the first images. Wow that thing is thin. I got a lot less happy when I checked out the specs:
Now, I can forgive the optical drive and maybe even the ethernet port given it's name is, afterall, the Macbook Air. But what is this about the battery? Apple is offering up free labor on replacements apparently, but still I don't get it. Didn't they learn anything from the iPod?

- Slower processor
- One (!) usb port
- No ethernet port
- Slow PATA drive by default
- Non-user replaceable battery
- No optical drive.

The kicker for me though, is the price. $1899 base and $3248 for the solid state drive version?
Whaaaaa?
I expected this to be the same price, maybe a tiny bit more, than the macbook. Maybe one could justify the normal version (did I mention this thing is really really thin?), but the SSD version is just insane.
I'm a pretty major fan of Apple. I'm on my third laptop and I have a mac mini as well. This just seems to me to be a bit of a mistake. I know it seems to be the habit of the industry to price the thinnest laptops to the extreme, but this brings it to a new level.
I'd certainly take one as a gift though. It is thin and shiny after all.
I hope this isn't another cube in the making.
